Most workplace difficulties do not arise because people are unwilling to work together.
More often, communication breaks down, misunderstandings develop, trust is eroded or tensions remain unresolved for too long.
The result can be a team that feels stuck. Relationships become strained, collaboration suffers, morale declines and issues that might once have been resolved informally begin to affect performance and wellbeing.
Facilitated Team Mediation provides a structured and constructive process to help teams address underlying issues, rebuild trust and develop a shared way forward.
Facilitated Team Mediation can be particularly valuable where:
The aim is not to attribute blame or determine who is right or wrong. Instead, the focus is on helping team members understand different perspectives, identify common themes and, together, develop practical solutions that they can collectively support.
Every team is different, but the process typically involves three stages.
I begin by meeting confidentially with individual team members.
These discussions provide an opportunity for people to share their experiences, concerns and perspectives in a safe and supportive environment.
The purpose is to understand the issues affecting the team and identify themes that may be contributing to difficulties.
Following the individual discussions, I analyse the feedback and identify areas of common concern, misunderstanding or tension. This helps ensure that the team focuses on the issues that matter most rather than becoming distracted by individual disagreements.
The team then comes together in a series of structured discussions designed to encourage open communication, improve understanding and identify practical ways forward.
Rather than imposing solutions, I help the team develop its own agreements and commitments for working more effectively together.
Drawing on my experience as an Employment Tribunal Judge, employment and discrimination lawyer and workplace mediator, I bring an independent and impartial perspective to workplace relationships.
