Facilitated Team Mediation

When a team is no longer working as well as it should

Most workplace difficulties do not arise because people are unwilling to work together.

More often, communication breaks down, misunderstandings develop, trust is eroded or tensions remain unresolved for too long.

The result can be a team that feels stuck.  Relationships become strained, collaboration suffers, morale declines and issues that might once have been resolved informally begin to affect performance and wellbeing.

Facilitated Team Mediation provides a structured and constructive process to help teams address underlying issues, rebuild trust and develop a shared way forward.

How can team mediation help?

Facilitated Team Mediation can be particularly valuable where:

  • Communication within a team has become difficult
  • Relationships have become strained or fractured
  • Tensions are affecting morale or performance
  • Significant organisational change has taken place
  • Teams have become divided into groups or factions
  • Concerns have been raised but formal processes are not appropriate
  • A team wishes to improve how it works together

The aim is not to attribute blame or determine who is right or wrong.  Instead, the focus is on helping team members understand different perspectives, identify common themes and, together, develop practical solutions that they can collectively support.

My Approach

Every team is different, but the process typically involves three stages.

Individual conversations

I begin by meeting confidentially with individual team members.

These discussions provide an opportunity for people to share their experiences, concerns and perspectives in a safe and supportive environment.

The purpose is to understand the issues affecting the team and identify themes that may be contributing to difficulties.

Identifying common themes

Following the individual discussions, I analyse the feedback and identify areas of common concern, misunderstanding or tension.  This helps ensure that the team focuses on the issues that matter most rather than becoming distracted by individual disagreements.

Facilitated team discussions

The team then comes together in a series of structured discussions designed to encourage open communication, improve understanding and identify practical ways forward.
Rather than imposing solutions, I help the team develop its own agreements and commitments for working more effectively together.

Why organisations choose team mediation

Drawing on my experience as an Employment Tribunal Judge, employment and discrimination lawyer and workplace mediator, I bring an independent and impartial perspective to workplace relationships.

In my experience. clients value:

  • Independence and neutrality
  • A calm and structured approach
  • Experience of complex workplace dynamics
  • A focus on practical and sustainable outcomes
  • An emphasis on restoring working relationships rather than assigning blame

The benefits of team mediation

Effective team mediation can help:

  • Improve communication
  • Rebuild trust
  • Strengthen working relationships
  • Reduce workplace tensions
  • Improve team effectiveness
  • Support positive workplace cultures
  • Prevent issues from escalating into formal disputes
